The Tudors is a 2007 ten-part television series commissioned by Showtime and produced by Reveille, LLC. The series examines the early reign of Henry VIII, with Jonathan Rhys Meyers in the lead role. The series formally debuted on Showtime on April 1, 2007 with the highest ratings which any Showtime series debut had ever received. The theme song is based on the beginning of Joseph Haydn’s Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser, which is best known for being the melody to which the German national anthem is sung.
Summary :
Henry VIII’s health is on the slide: the recent siege of Boulogne has taken its toll on his aging body and his ulcerous leg is constantly in pain. Bishop Gardiner and the Catholic Church are once again in the ascendant at court but, tired of conflict, Henry demonstrates little enthusiasm for the ambitious Bishop’s accusation that Catherine Parr is a heretic.
